Why Clean Windows This Season?
The Shuswap sits in one of BC's sunnier interior valleys, and summer UV is intense from June through late August. That UV acts as a curing agent on any film sitting on your glass — dust, pollen residue, insect splatter, and the fine silica particles thrown up by gravel roads all begin to bond more firmly to glass surfaces under sustained heat and light. Properties near the lake pick up boat wake spray and jet-ski mist, which carries dissolved minerals that dry into white haze on exposed lower-storey windows. The summer dry season also means Salmon Arm and the surrounding region get regular dust events from fields east of town and from high-traffic recreation routes like the Squilax-Anglemont Road. For vacation rental owners — and there are thousands of short-term rental properties on Shuswap Lake alone — summer is peak revenue season, and a window clean between guests is the fastest visible upgrade you can make to a property. Dirty windows read immediately in listing photos and during check-in. A mid-summer clean in July splits the season and removes the accumulated film before it bakes through August. For homes with screen porches or large lake-facing windows, a summer clean also clears the insect debris that accumulates from June bug season through the July heat peak.

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly do windows get dirty again after a summer clean?
In dry conditions with light traffic, a professionally cleaned exterior can stay clear for 6–10 weeks. Properties on gravel roads, near the lake, or with heavy tree coverage will resoil faster — sometimes within 3–4 weeks. Most residential clients find one summer clean sufficient; vacation rental owners often do a mid-season top-up. We're happy to advise based on your property's specific exposure.
Can you work around my vacation rental booking calendar?
Yes — this is something we actively accommodate. If you share your booking calendar, we can identify gap days between checkouts and check-ins and schedule accordingly. For properties with tight turnarounds, we recommend gap days of at least 3–4 hours. We can also set up recurring cleans tied to your season so you're not rebooking each time.
Do you work in the heat of summer? What about smoke season?
We work through summer heat with early-morning scheduling on hot days — direct sun on hot glass can cause streaking, so we prefer morning starts from June through August. During wildfire smoke events, we may reschedule exterior work if visibility or air quality is significantly impaired. We'll always communicate proactively if conditions affect your booking.
My windows are developing a white haze that doesn't wipe off easily. Is that hard water?
Quite possibly. Properties on Shuswap Lake, Mara Lake, and Mabel Lake are especially prone to mineral deposits from lake spray and irrigation water high in calcium and magnesium. Early-stage haze often responds to professional cleaning with appropriate solutions. If the deposit has been baking through multiple summers, it may require targeted stain removal treatment. We assess on-site and quote transparently before any additional treatment.
